QuickBooks File Doctor is a program that allows users to recover or repair a damaged QuickBooks company file. when you are unable to open a QuickBooks file, there could be 2 reasons either it could be due to some network issue or the file could be corrupted.

Before QBFD (QuickBooks File Doctor), there were two different programs to solve network connectivity and file corruption, but in 2012 QuickBooks Launched a tool Combining  QuickBooks Network Connectivity Diagnostic tool and QuickBooks File Diagnostic tool, as a result, QBFD  was created.

You can visit the Official Quickbooks Site to Download and install the QuickBooks File Doctor, It is necessary to have the .net framework installed in your System. Run the downloaded file named QBFD.exe and follow the simple instruction is given on-screen.

How to repair the File Using QBFD

• Open the QBFD and select the company file that you want to repair.
• Click on Diagnose file.
• Write the username and password of the company file you are repairing.
• Now you will be asked to choose the server or workstation.
• If the option to Share a file is displayed:
  • Click Yes- if File doctor is executed on the host computer.
  • Click No- If the computer is not hoisting a company file.
• When Repair and diagnosis are completed close the file doctor and open the file to check if the issue is fixed.

Result possibilities

• File Doctor did not find the problem: if the file doctor was unable to find any problem and the file still not opening, you can run the auto data recovery setup and provide the transaction since your last backup.
• QuickBooks File Doctor Fixed the problem: Now you can open the file and add the missing transactions(if any).
• File Doctor found a problem but was not able to fix it: Use the Data recovery setup and add transaction Manually since the last backup.
• Data Synchronization Error: Quickbook Sync Manager is not Syncing your company file due to which you are facing the loss of data and you are unable to view the full data and the transactions are misplaces that were formerly present in QuickBooks or Vendor Item.
• Network Diagnosis
  • For Network Diagnosis you must log in as administrator in windows and turn off window user account control
  • If File Doctor is Showing an error like UAC(User Account Setting) is Turned on. Search and open UAC Settings at the start menu
  • If you see there are many versions are there, then Quickbooks file Doctor would not be able to fix the problem. In such a case, You need to open the file on another system.
  • When QB file doctor is open, it starts the network diagnosis by default which restricts the data issues. To  disable it,
    • Go to the advanced setting in the application.
    • Set by default is the first option there.
    • Select as per your preference.

Limitation of QuickBooks File Doctor:

• If UAC Setting is turned on in windows. File Doctor would have admin privileges when opened.
• Network Diagnostics can only be done only when QuickBooks is in hoisting mode.
• QuickBooks File Doctor is only Available for UK and US versions.
• Can not work if multiple version is installed.
• Needs an active internet connection for uploading and repair.
• Can not repair files more than 2GB.

Required System Essential:

• Admin login when doing network diagnosis.
• Not necessary to install QB File repair.
• QuickBooks Hoisting should be turned ON when doing multiuser repair and diagnosis.

What to do after repair?

After the Repairing process is completed, backup the company file and copy the company file, and backup it to an external hard drive.
